Hi, i registered with you last year after attending a course. I assumed that information would be e mailed out to schools about the dates. I now realise that i have missed the dates for registering candidates and since registering i have not been contacted at all by you despite my school Clitheroe royal grammar school being on your list. Is it too late to enter any students then?if so what will happen next year? Will you contact schools or not? I do not understand how this scheme works. Wen i registered i was told. Would be contacted but i haven’t been.
Kind regards
Victoria Mousley
Dear Victoria,
I think I owe you a big apology. You are indeed registered with us, which ought to mean that you were also automatically added to the mailing list for schoools (UKLOS); I do this by hand, and it looks as though I failed to process you. I’m very sorry about that. I’ve now added you, but it reinforces my view that the system creaks, so I’m moving towards a new fool-proof one.
I’m also sorry it’s taken me so long to reply to your query – I don’t often check this panel (in fact, I thought the system would automatically notify me of any comment, but it didn’t). This year is by no means lost. If you want to run the Foundation or Intermediate tests now, please feel free. That’s not a problem, as you mark them yourself. The Advanced level is much harder, but if you can act really fast, we can just about accommodate you – but please contact me (by email, not here) to negotiate.
Very sorry about this slip-up, and I hope you manage to rescue something from it this year.
Dick
I have a few questions which I would like you to answer. I am currently in English Year 12 (aged 17):
1. Am I eligible to participate?
2. If I am eligible to participate, which level would I have to enter?
3. If I am eligible, does it have to go through my school?
4. How much does it cost to enter, for either my school or myself as a single candidate?
Thanks in advance,
Ashley Haigh
Hello Ashley. You don’t say where you’re at school. If it’s in the UK, you’re certainly eligible, but I’m afraid you have to enter through your school. They can enter you at any level you choose. It’s completely free to both you and your school. So what you need to do is to find a teacher who might be open to persuasion – typically a modern-language teacher, but it could be English language, classics or even maths. There’s plenty more information on the website at http://www.uklo.org.
Best wishes, Dick
Hi,
I am a parent of one of the Australia team’s members and need to know at what time the 2013 Olympiad closes on Friay 26/7/13
as we are looking to fly out of Manchester on Friday night.
Thank you
Lynne
Sorry Lynne – only just seen this. I’m afraid this blog isn’t an efficient way to contact us. Please ask the local organiser, Neil Sheldon – n.a.sheldon AT mgs.org.
