Training material
Some schools offer pupils some training before they take the Round 1 test. Here’s some training material that you might like to consider for use with pupils. It’s all in powerpoint format.
- A show by Dick Hudson, taking you through three problems of increasing difficulty: ‘The Linguistics Olympiad – how to succeed’.
- An introductory show used by Louis Blois with his English Language students: ‘A is for Apple, Arbitrariness and Ox’
- A follow-up show used by Louis Blois: ‘L is for Linguistic Methods (and lions)’ This show discusses a Greek problem in a separate file.

Thanks for the link to your website in Malaysia, and for the links from there to our site. It’s good to be reminded that we’re part of an international community.

Hello Dick,
We are new in this thing so we hope to learn from those with more experience and resources. We hope to participate in the IOL in the near future.
You’re welcome
